Getting a lightweight detector will help make the process less fatiguing and getting a high quality one will help you not pass by that diamond ring lying just past your range.  If you plan on going on the beach you might want to get one with a waterproof coil or even a waterproof detector.  If you are looking for a bargain then check out the items I have listed on this site.  Many are new but some are used but there are tons to look at, new and refurbished.

Buying the best metal detector is not always the way to go.  Determine what you need, after all, if you are not happy with it then you will not use it!  You might want to look into the seller ratings and reviews to be sure they are good.  If you don't find what you need then you might want to go straight to the source.
